It’s Summer in Santa Ana: Here Are the Best Activities, Events, and Shows!

If you live in Santa Ana, you’ll know just how great it is to live here. Whether you’re a permanent resident or just visiting during the summer, Santa Ana is the perfect place to be! It’s central location makes it convenient to travel to anywhere in southern California including Anaheim, Long Beach, and Riverside. Between zoos, tours, and tons of great shops and restaurants, you’ll find something fun to do in no time! Here’s a list of some of the best summer activities and events in Santa Ana:

Summer Activities

Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park

If you haven’t visited the Santa Ana Zoo (SAZOO) recently, it’s time to visit now! Just recently, the SAZOO opened a new ocelot exhibit and became one of only a handful of zoos that feature the Brazilian native. (In fact, there are only 26 Brazilian ocelots in the entire country!) Construction is also underway on a new river otter habitat with planned primate passages above and underwater viewing platforms below. It is SAZOO’s largest undertaking yet!

There are tons of amazing animals to see, and the selection of animals living at the zoo is always expanding! Tickets cost $9–12, depending on age. Even better, if you’re already a Santa Ana resident, you’ll get in free every third Sunday of the month!

Santa Ana Walking Tour

Santa Ana takes great pride in its heritage. In fact, Downtown Santa Ana is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and several buildings are registered landmarks, with architecture from the first part of the 20th century.

Join this walking tour on June 19 at 2 p.m. This 2.5-hour tour costs about $12 for adults, but children under 13 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time and are available up to one hour before the tour, assuming capacity hasn’t been reached. Don’t miss out on seeing Santa Ana’s history for yourself!

Movies in the Park

Santa Ana will be taking part in the annual Movies in the Park series this year. The movies are free, and Kettle Corn is provided to the first 500 attendees, so get there early! Free headsets are available for those who wish to watch the movies in Spanish. There’ll be plenty of pre-movie activities like arts and crafts and face painting. You can find what movie will be playing here

Movies in the Park takes place every Wednesday from June 8 through August 31 at select city parks throughout Orange County. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the movies begin at sunset. Bring your own blankets or chairs for maximum comfort. Seating is based on a first-come-first-served basis, so if you want front-row seats, come early and claim the best spots!

Events

Fourth of July Celebration

Celebrate with family and friends at the 10th Annual Fourth of July Celebration . This city-sponsored event includes food trucks and vendors, activities for kids, and, of course, a magnificent fireworks display! Events begin at 5 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m. at Centennial Regional Park (3000 West Edinger Avenue).

Admission and parking are both free, and the event is the perfect family activity to celebrate the Fourth of July. The organizers ask that dogs be kept on a leash and alcohol be left at home. Arrive early to get the best seats, but bring your own chair and blanket.

East End Block Party

The popular music festival is back for 2022! This festival highlights Santa Ana’s musicians and artists. Hosted in downtown Santa Ana at the Yost Festival Grounds, this year’s line-up includes NHale, Big Fun, Doughboy Tony, Shock Therapy, Joynoise, and more. With so much talent, the East End Block Party is going to be a jam this year.

Tickets are free but do require preregistration to secure your spot. The event begins at noon and ends at 10 p.m. on June 11, 2022. With so many great performers and sets by great local DJs, the East End Block Party is sure to be a good time!

Hotrods on the Tarmac

The Lyon Air Museum will be hosting a “ Showcase Your Hot Rod ” event on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors will be able to appreciate the historic aircraft as well as the immaculate hot rods on display. If you’ve got a hotrod from the 1940s or 50s, you can submit your car to be displayed for everyone to admire.

General admission tickets are $13 for adults and $6 for children (children under five are free). Veterans and seniors (60+) qualify for a discounted ticket at $10.
